BENEFIT EVENT FOR "AYUDA DIRECTA"

Next Saturday, October 1st, we are raising money to help the AYUDA DIRECTA association which supports family micro-projects in Asia. We hope many of you will come to aid this good cause.

19 h - Dance performances by SHADHA and the AL•LADINAS belly-dance group, as well as salsa and flamenco demonstrations.
20:30 h - Concerts by the rock bands SANDERS, CYNICAL y DEZANATTA

AYUDA DIRECTA : from hand to hand

This is a non-profit family initiative seeking to aid needy families in Asia.
The people behind it are Constance Cremers and Juan Forcano, a couple who, after years of circumnavigating the globe, decided they wanted to help the people they met on their travels through India and other Asian countries.
Starting with the idea that a small amount of money can go a long way, they began to get involved with the families they met on their travels. Before setting off on a new trip they make the round of friends and family at home, collecting donations towards the work. They have managed to bring help and happiness to several families in India and Sri Lanka simply by covering some of their basic needs such as finding a place to live or a means to earn a living.
These micro-projects are funded, managed and supervised by Constance and Juan. They do not give the money directly to the families, but see each project through to completion themselves.

Constance Cremers and Juan Forcano are the parents of Sa Taronja's belly-dance teacher Karen. We admire the work they are doing and are convinced that this one-to-one, hands-on help
is transforming the lives of the people it touches. It is a small, precious drop in the ocean of need, and deserves to be supported and applauded. October 12th is "C-Day", the date that
Christopher Columbus
sighted land in South America.

To commemorate this date, we present a night dedicated to the explorer in images and music.

Join us for a celebration of that long-ago event, in an evening with music of the period and a menu that will include a typical recipe from south America, as well as our usual à la Carte.

Jens Axelsen, classical guitarrist, will be presenting a programme of Renaissance music by Spanish composers such as Luis de Narvaez, Gaspar Sanz and Luis Milan. The pieces were composed for the vihuela, which was the Spanish equivalent to the lute - a small guitar with double strings. It was a very flourishing period for the instrument in the 16th century Spain, with lots of composers and many players.

The concert will be accompanied by projections of images of the conquest of the New World...

Our favourite Cuban band, the Mallorca Sound Machine, will once again delight all lovers of Cuba, its music, its spirit...... and its cuisine. We welcome Maria of Havana Jazz Café fame, who promises to prepare the best Cuban buffet we have ever offered. Tamales, Congri, Ropa Vieja, hot Tostones (fried plantain), Yucca, and marinated fish.... washed down with a Mojito or a Caipiriña. Come and try it, and then put on your dancing shoes.
