So what's all this about Sa Taronja closing...?

PURCHASE OUR SA TARONJA T-SHIRT FOR 10 €!

Closing? Why?

What does this mean?

It means that the cultural programme, which has grown over the last few years to become a full-time activity, will stop - for lack of funding. The current programme will come to an end on October 28th, 2012.

FUNDRAISING IS THE SOLUTION

At the same time, at every opportunity we are urging people to become members (100€/year). Contradictory?
Not really. With a much enlarged membership base, and some private or corporate sponsors, we could continue to provide a comprehensive cultural service. We believe this is possible, and this is why Tina Horne, president of the Association, with the help of committees formed during the Members Meeting of September 30th 2012, will be fundraising and looking for solutions over the next 5 months. Meanwhile the finca where the Association has been located for the last 15 years will continue to open its doors and its halls for classes, workshops, and Member's events.

SA TARONJA EXISTS WITHOUT ANY PUBLIC FUNDING

Some people are still not aware that Sa Taronja is and has always been a private initiative. Sa Taronja has never received public funding except for certain one-off events, and over the last three years the infrequent grants have dwindled to nothing. During the current crisis, in which cultural budgets are being slashed all over the country, we cannot expect any help from the public purse.

CULTURE IS A MUST!

It is clear: not only in Sa Taronja but all over the world - the old model is not working, and change must come. We believe very strongly that culture is not just important, but essential. If there are no artists, there is no art. Without art, no culture. Without culture, no society. To all those who create and inspire us, we dedicate our heartfelt thanks. We want to go on supporting artists - and enriching the lives of our public.

OUR FUTURE IS IN YOUR HANDS!

Many, many people enjoy Sa Taronja, and they don't want it (or the restaurant Limón y Chelo) to close.
"Closing?" they cry. What a pity!
We say to them, if for every "what a pity!" we had a new member, we would not have to close.
The future of Sa Taronja is really in your hands. Because in the new Europe, if there is no funding from individuals or corporate entities, there will be very little in the way of cultural services available to the public.

If you want to help, make a donation or become a member. 100€ a year gives you the run of our lovely estate, where you may pick the fruit, invite your friends, get married, present new ideas or hold private parties, as well as enjoying a discount on all admissions whenever we hold events.

SPONSORS AND PATRONS WANTED!

And if you are in the lucky position of having "excess wealth", we hope you will dedicate some of it to preserving and promoting culture. You, the patrons, hold our future in your hands. We are looking for serious partners in a venture that not only provides a vital service now, but which has grreat potential for the future.

PRESSURE ON POLITICIANS NEEDED

There are several ways people can help that do not involve giving money. The most important is by putting pressure on the politicians who are planning to rezone the area and increase the taxes on the property to an unacceptable level. To find out how have a look on our website in a short time and write to your local politician. You can also become a volunteer and help us maintain the property and organise certain events.

If you are already a member, thank you! -  You will shortly receive the report of the August 30 meeting and a summary of our plans for the future.
The striking water columns at Sa Taronja are the work of ceramicist Stefan Prochaska

Although we would love to keep them forever, the artist hopes to find a buyer! Maybe these original works of art would look good in your finca? Prices available on request.
