8 p.m. Vernissage of an EXHIBITION of charcoal drawings of olive trees by artist JESÚS MENDOZA. Hours: Sat/Sun from 11 - 2 p.m., Wed - Fri 5 - 9 p.m. or by appointment. Exhibition runs until 8th April.
They say that owners grow to resemble their dogs. Is it that Jesús has come to resemble the trees that he draws with such an instinctive eye? Or is he naturally drawn to olives because they already resemble him? This sinewy, quiet man, a loner, a caring gardener and an
exquisite draughtsman, feels a deep passion for the mysteries of Nature that is reflected in his work.
Currently he is exhibiting olives, trees whose knotted trunks, whorled grey bark and capacity for patience have excited admiration and reflection for centuries. Jesús comes from Burgos, in northern Castille, but his spiritual home is clearly among these sentinels of the Tramuntana, which he has captured with masterful tenderness. The show includes around 15 drawings of olives and some landscapes. He also accepts commissions.
Performance of “Rosas en las manos”, an example of contemporary flamenco by dancer Elsa Montenegro. After the performance, join us and other local artlovers for the first in our 2007 series of lively multilingual dinners. This is a chance to make new friends and practise your Spanish (or Mallorcan, Polish, French, German etc…)
Performance (10 p.m.) and dinner (9.p.m.): 16 €
Performance only: 6 € (children free)
Busch's oeuvre includes Installation, live performance and software he programmes himself. Originally from a video background, Busch now creates with computers, and his artworks are engendered by, and deal with, the digital world. The main thrust of his work is the development, using modern means, of the tradition of patternmaking, following the centuries-old practice of arabic non-figurative decorative art, such as that seen in the Alhambra in Granada. He makes use of the computer to construct and create patterns and explore the world of images contained in them. As indicated by his motto "Media without media" , the computer is not present in all his work, although traces of it are always perceptible. His most useful tool is the software MAX/MSP and Jitter, which he also teaches in workshops.
Busch has exhibited in Berlin and other German cities, has presented his work at conferences dealing with Architecture and Media Theory, and has recently co-published a scientific paper on Ubiquitous Computing.
He is currently artist in residence at Sa Taronja, where he is working on his latest project, "Mustermaschine" (the Pattern Machine).
