CINE + PINCHOS / Film Club
22:00 h / Cafeteca / Free entry
Monday’s film (13th July) in the Cafeteca / 10 p.m.
The idiots (1998)
Lars von Trier (Danish with Spanish subtitles)
directed by Lars von Trier. It is his first film made in compliance with the Dogme 95 Manifesto, and is also known as Dogme #2. It is the second film in von Trier's Golden Heart Trilogy, which includes Breaking the Waves (1996) and Dancer in the Dark (2000). It is among the first films to be shot entirely with digital cameras.
Karen (Bodil Jørgensen) is dining alone at a crowded restaurant when a group of people who seem to be mentally disabled enter and disrupt everyone's meal. Discerning that they are not what they seem, Karen returns with the group to the large communal house they inhabit with charismatic Stoffer (Jens Albinus). This group of intellectuals is attempting to challenge bourgeois ideology by behaving like "idiots" in public. Karen, however, may take the act further than any of them had planned.
The Idiots was ranked #76 in Empire magazine's "The 100 Best Films Of World Cinema" in 2010.[9] The magazine had previously given it a full five star rating on its release in UK cinemas. It is listed as #941 in the film reference book '1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die'. The film provoked a storm of publicity and debates, one of which was about the fictional representation of disability, the other about the sexual content, unusually explicit for a narrative film.

»KRAFTWERK_ KLAVIER / GENERATOR«
Thilo Schölpen - piano
Peter Issig - video projections
The evening of July 15 brings us a Kraftwerk concert and electronic-audiovisual performance.
9:30 p.m.
GENERATOR - live audiovisual performance
The musician and video artist Peter Issig opens the evening with the première of his live audiovisual performance GENERATOR. GENERATOR is a digital enviroment in which electronic music and digitally generated video animation are arranged, live, though a human interface. Music and video are connected interactively, and mutually influence each other.
10.15 p.m.
KRAFTWERK_KLAVIER
Thilo Schölpen plays his arrangement of the music of Kraftwerk, the pioneers of electronic music, on the piano. Between minimalist rigor and romantic soundscapes he creates piano miniatures that are reminiscent of Bela Bartok, Erik Satie and Steve Reich. The cool melodies and rhythms of the Kraftwerk’s music turn out to be the perfect material for interpretations that feel equally at home to an audience soaked in pop culture as well as one from a classical concert situation. Programmed synthesizer sequences turn into lively ostinato figures that offer scope for improvisation, and popular songs become timeless piano music. Along with the music, Schoelpen projects movie sequences he filmed during a recent concert visit to New York.
Thilo Schölpen studied piano at the Amsterdamse Hogeschool voor de Kunsten, in Holland.
Apart from his piano concerts he produces and composes music and appears with other experimental musicians and conceptual artists in concerts and installations. His concert tours have taken him to London, Athens, Saragossa, Milan, New York.
