Exhibition - Saturday, March 1

Vernissage of an exhibition of pictures (Artistic Patchwork) by Regine Kempf

Home - 12:00

Regine Kempf has lived on Mallorca now for 35 years. When she first came here, settling in a quiet valley near S'Arraco, there were not many ways of earning a living - with her degree in Germanic philology. An artistic woman whose house overflows with creative inventions and colour, she looked for an activity that would make use of her talents - other than making cheeses from the milk of her growing herd of goats.

She began to work with materials, and slowly she developed and refined her patchwork technique, creating pictures with scraps of colourful cloth she collected from neighbours and friends. For thirty years now her stitched collages have delighted people in Mallorca and beyond, and her pictures hang on walls all over the world. She divides her time now between her goats, her art and a more recent passion - tango - for which she and her partner have won many prizes. But she continues to create images of Mallorca's old houses, gardens, villages and landscapes, so beloved of those who buy these unique pictures, using the same technique she developed years ago and which no-one has been able to copy with the same degree of expertise.

The exhibition in Sa Taronja includes new and old work, scenes of the country and the sea, in large and small formats, and will run for the whole of the month of March.

Gallery hours: Wed-Fri: 6 - 9 p.m. / Sat-Sun 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. (Or by appointment)
