Mayte Bayon belongs to the tradition of visionary artists whose act of creation takes place on the borders between poetry, painting, word and image.
There is a nomadism in Bayón's work that draws on imagery derived from the jungles of Africa, the Australian aborigines or the Navajo Indians. It shows up explicitly in many of the "disguises" that the artist, in a clear splitting of her personality, presents as self-portraits in her notebooks and which, intermittently, have given rise to a series of spells and amulets as well as a new series of very personal, polymorphic models or sculptures, hybrids springing from her overlapping creative worlds.
